Former Hoover softball great Jessica Simpson Long to be inducted into Miami's Hall of Fame
OXFORD Former Hoover High School pitching great Jessica (Simpson) Long is a member of the Miami Redhawks 49th Hall of Fame Class of 2017-18 and will be will be inducted on Friday, October 20.
Simpson set every single season and career pitching record for Miami from 2009-2012 and went on to establish Mid-American Conference records for wins (102), shutouts (46) and innings pitched (1048.2). She was also second in both strikeouts and complete games.
Simpson was named the MAC Pitcher of the Year in both 2011 and 2012, seasons in which she was named the Redhawks' Female Athlete of the Year.
She helped Miami to MAC Tournament championships in 2009 and 2012 and was named MVP each season as the team made the NCAA Division I tournament. As a senior Simpson carried the Redhawks to a school-record 41 wins and an opening-round triumph over Tennessee.
Simpson and the Class of 2017-18 will be honored at an induction ceremony Friday, October 20 at Armstrong Center Pavilion and then recognized at halftime of the Buffalo and Miami football game on Saturday, Oct. 21.
