LAKE TWP. Zach Sturmi, a two-time All-Ohio selection for the Lake Blue Streaks, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play football for Walsh University.
Sturmi was the leading tackler and receiver for the Blue Streaks this past year and earned first team All-Federal League, All-Stark County, and All-District honors.
In a team vote, Sturmi was selected as the team’s most valuable player and he was joined by his parents, Jeff and Kim Sturmi, as well as Lake head coach Dan DeGeorge for his signing.
“Zach has been a great leader for us both on and off the field,” DeGeorge said. “He is a very talented football player who always puts the team first. Zach has the toughness, and work ethic to succeed at the next level, and he has been an integral part of the Blue Streak football family over the last three years.”
With Sturmi and this season’s senior class leading the way, Lake qualified for the state playoffs in both 2015 and 2016. With a current 3.76 GPA at Lake, Sturmi plans to major in pre-medicine and biochemistry at Walsh.
