CANTON Malone junior forward Mitchell Spotleson (Lake) earned another Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week award for his performances against Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene.
Spotleson, a 6-foot-5 forward, helped the Pioneers to a 1-1 record, including their first home win in the G-MAC, and added to his impressive numbers with two strong outings. Against No. 15 Kentucky Wesleyan, he scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half as Malone erased a 14-point deficit before falling in the final minute. Two days later, Spotleson delivered another strong second half, scoring 13 of his 16 points after intermission and pulling down eight rebounds in a 71-67 triumph over Trevecca in which the Pioneers overcame another double-digit deficit at the half.
For the week, Spotleson shot 70 percent from the field, including 54.5 percent from 3-point range, and 83.3 percent from the free throw line. He is the only player in the G-MAC to rank in the top 10 in scoring (13.1 ppg - ninth), rebounding (6.5 rpg - fifth), field goal percentage (52.3 percent - fourth) and 3-point percentage (42.5 percent - fourth).
