CANTON  Former Lake standout Mitchell Spotleson was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week after leading the way in Malone’s 114-62 victory over Wright State University Lake.

The 6-foot-5 junior forward hit 7 of 8 3-pointers to fuel the Malone offense as the Pioneers set a new team single-game record (and tied the G-MAC single-game record) with 20 made 3-pointers on the night.

The seven made 3-pointers set a new career high for Spotleson, who also grabbed five rebounds and finished with a game-high 23 points - just one point shy of his previous career-high of 24. After his long-range breakout, Spotleson began last week ranked second in the G-MAC with an average of 2.6 three-pointers per outing.

He’s also ranked fifth in the conference in three-point percentage (42.6 percent), ninth in rebounding (6.1 per game) and tenth in scoring (13.3 points per game). With the win, Malone improved to 3-3 in its last six games and the Pioneers are 5-7 through their first 12 games.
