NORTH CANTON  Senior Matt Peare, who won a Division I state pole vault championship as a sophomore and has been a force on the track for the Vikings throughout his high school career, has signed to compete for the Kentucky Wildcats next year.

He set a Stark County record and reached the state meet as a sophomore by clearing 16’4, breaking the mark previously held by Lucas Kelley of Perry. The two compete for the same club team. As a junior, Peare and Kelley tied for fifth in the national indoor track and field rankings for high school athletes.

Kentucky is an NCAA Division I program competing in the Southeastern Conference.
