NORTH CANTON A pair of Hoover senior athletes recently committed to continue their academic and athletic careers at Ashland University next fall.
Senior basketball player Maddie Blyer and senior pitcher Nathan Fox signed with the Eagles, inking their respective letters of intent with family, friends and school staffers on hand.
Blyer, who committed to Ashland more than a year ago, averaged 13 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals while shooting 41 percent on 3-pointers and 82 percent on free throws over the past two seasons.
The senior guard earned first-team honors for the Federal League and Stark County last season and also earned top honors for the Associated Press District IV team and Northeast Ohio Inland teams. She was also named third-team All-Ohio after pacing the Vikings to 19 regular-season wins.
Fox has been a reliable bat in the Hoover baseball lineup in recent seasons, setting the school record for best single-season batting average by hitting .462 as a junior. He ended the 2015 season with a 14-game hitting streak and will look to extend that streak this spring.
For his efforts, Fox was named All-Federal League and All-Stark County, along with making the first team on the Repository All-Star Preps team and second team for the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association.
