The following students were recently recognized by the Newcomerstown Board of Education as Students of the Month:

• Sophia Cathcart, Kindergarten.

• Aleksus Warehime, First grade.

• No Student of the Month for Second- Fifth grade for the month of September.

• Illiana Harris, Sixth grade.

• Nyah Baker, Seventh grade.

• Megan Parry, Eighth grade.

• Sarah Watson, Newcomerstown High School Senior.

The board also:

• approved permanent appropriations for the fiscal year, 2019.

• approved federal programs allocations for fiscal year, 2019. The allocations included Early Childhood Development $120,000. Idea Part B $233,922.35. Title I (which includes Title II funding of $41,519.34) $486,623.47. Title IV-A $21,179.84, and Title V-B $18,847.37. The total of the allocations is $880,573.03.

• approved moving Shelley Cline, Language Arts, Middle School, to the Master’s +15 pay schedule.

• approved moving Robin Masloski, Elementary Music, to Master’s +15 pay schedule.

• A donation of $310.94 from the Moose Lodge was approved, and will be placed in the special cost center within the general fund.

• accepted a grant of $3,000 from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to help with the Newsela Pro Software Subscription at the Middle School. The grant was written by Walter Hines.

• The Superintendent announced applications for the Wall of Honor for Newcomerstown High School Alumni, and the Citizens’ Wall of Honor are being accepted until March, 2019. The Board will review the applications and announce those selected at the April, 2019 regular Board session.

• approved the Superintendent and the District Treasurer to complete competitive bidding requirements of the Ohio Revised Code 3313.46 in connection with the construction of a 12,000 square foot indoor athletic facility.

• approved the open enrollment list for the 2018-19 school year.

• approved the list of students for the home education program for the 2018-19 school year.

• approved Home Instruction tutors: Michelle Schneider, Tim Rogers, Cathy Ringer.

• approved teachers for the Friday School program at $12 per hour for the 2018-19 school year. Andrew Nichols, Kristen Casteel, Tevor Biggs, and Tara Schroeder.

• approved correction to Resident Educator Assignment for Andrew Nichols from a one year mentor assignment to a three year assignment with RESA group.

• approved supplemental contracts for: Adam Lefler for Play Director for Fall & Spring, Rachel Bowers as Prom Advisor and Junior Class Advisor, and Walter Hines as Middle School Yearbook Advisor.

• approved leave of absence for Jess Arth effective for October 1, 2018 through October 31, 2018.

• approved a six week maternity leave of absence for Tanya Robinson effective for September 4, 2018.

• approved extracurricular coaches for the 2018-19 school year: Jamie Lewis, Head Coach for Boys and Girls Track; and Robb Hendershot, Head Coach, Baseball; Lee Fish, Head Coach, Softball.
