A driver lost control of a car and wound up ramming into a window at the Family Dollar store in North Canton.

NORTH CANTON A Family Dollar store sustained damage Sunday afternoon when a driver lost control of her vehicle and rammed into a large window, resulting in an injury to a male employee.

Police described the motorist as a 59-year-old local woman. Th crash occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m. The vehicle partially entered Family Dollar at 700 N. Main St. on the west side of the building.

"It  appears the driver hit the accelerator instead of the brake," police Sgt. Matthew Buzzard said. "The car hit the building, and it knocked the rack over and it hit the employee. It looks like minor injuries. But the employee was transported to a hospital."

The driver was not injured. She was driving a Honda Civic. A full police report regarding the crash was not available Sunday night, so Sgt. Buzzard was not able to say in which direction or on what street the woman had been traveling. Police did not cite her.

"It is a private-property crash," Buzzard said. "On private-property crashes, we normally don't cite. She is still on the hook for being responsible for the accident. All the damage to the building would have to be covered by her insurance."

The vehicle was not towed. Later in the day, the window was boarded up, according to Buzzard.
