NORTH CANTON The North Canton Chamber of Commerce sponsored its sixth annual Senior Showcase on April 3 at the North Canton Civic Center. More than 25 vendors from area business, medical and assisted living facilities and other organizations were on hand to talk with local seniors about a variety of services.
"Over the four hours planned for the event, we get upwards of 200 people come through to talk with the exhibitors," Chamber President Doug Lane said. "We love this venue because it’s got plenty of parking, it’s in the heart of the city and it’s easy to get into. It’s a nice way for seniors to get out and talk with the different companies about services they may need or find services they may not have thought about before."
There were a variety of services exhibiting including transportation, real estate, assisted living facilities and city services such as North Canton fire and police departments. A few of the new exhibitors included Court Angel, Simply EZ Home Delivered Meals, Cutler Real Estate and SarahCare Senior Solutions.
Jen Corvino from Community Hospice was one of the first-time exhibitors. She said the organization has been seeing patients in the area for more than 30 years. It is the recipient of the 2016 and 2017 Hospice Honors Recipient.
"We were one of the first Hospices to open in the county, we’re independently owned and run by a board of directors and we stay involved with the community," Corvino said.
Christi Murphy is the volunteer recruiter for the Court Angel program and she was attending the showcase for the first time.
"We are a volunteer program through the probate court and we help anyone over the age of 18 that has been deemed incompetent," Murphy said. "Our volunteers act as an extra set of eyes and ears to make sure the client’s needs are met. We have 69 volunteers who have a heart for one of the most vulnerable populations."
Lane said the Chamber holds the event every year to help connect members to the senior community and for the seniors to be able to talk with the various businesses and safety organizations offering services to seniors.
