JACKSON TWP. A line of people started to wrap around the building just after midnight Monday at the new Arby’s restaurant on Portage Street Northwest. People were waiting for a chance to be one of the 50 people to receive a free Arby’s for a year coupon.
The giveaway was part of the grand opening of a new location, which is in front of Home Depot where the Pizza Hut used to be located. The restaurant's exterior features the newest building design for the Arby’s chain.
Restaurant Manager Melissa Holmes said that the new eatery offers more than just a newly styled facility.
"Our set up is completely different than we’ve ever had before, and customers can stop in to see our newest sandwiches and menu offerings or visit www.arbys.com," Holmes said.
The inside includes wood tones, white brick, subway tiles, stainless steel finishes, chalkboard graphics and upgraded lighting and landscaping. The chain has upgraded 20 percent of their restaurants to this style and is working on remodeling more restaurants across the U.S.
Holmes said the restaurant will employ 40 to 50 people both full and part-time. She also said the restaurant will be donating the purchase price of each kids’ meal sold through Dec. 10 as part of the Arby’s Give Back Program to battle childhood hunger to Lake Cable Elementary School.
Lake Cable Principal Angie Leggett she and the PTO will look at the best ways to use the donation from Arby’s.
According to statements published by Arby’s, the company spends several weeks each year raising money in the restaurants to fund local national organizations working to end childhood hunger. The global chain raised $4.5 million in 2016.
The restaurant held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday before opening its doors. Members of the community and the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce attended. Arby’s Director of Operations Ken Hannaman was there with others from the Arby’s organization.
"This is our ninth company owned restaurant in Canton and our 15th when counting the franchises," Hannaman said. "We love this location and hope it will be one of our premier locations. The chain was founded in 1964 in Boardman, Ohio, and Canton has always been a great place for us. We’re proud to be here and look forward to serving customers at this new location."
