JACKSON TWP.  The Anew Room upscale furniture and furnishings consignment shop in Jackson Township has expanded its showroom. It now has 4,030 square feet, more than double the size it was when it opened last year.

Anew Room sells pre-owned, upscale furniture, lamps, tables, chairs and other accessories. Owner Ruthanne Wilkof said business has been good creating a need for more space. She’s also added a section for new items and is working with a professional interior design consultant, Josette Kark.

"We’ve also added a couple of new lines in the store including hand painted furniture and repurposed pieces from local artists," Wilkof said.

Wilkof is a real estate agent and has seen a trend where some empty nesters and others are starting to downsize their homes. Homeowners often have furniture and other items that look new.

The expanded shop is located in the same plaza as when it opened but is a few doors down from the original location. It is packed wall to wall with several styles of furniture, rugs, lamps and more.

"The shop is really the best of both worlds with preloved furniture in great shape and a selection of new furniture," said store manager Joni Reusser. "We do all the merchandising of a diverse inventory that changes weekly. Our customer base and our consigner base has expanded which required us to expand the shop. There are items from over 300 consigners in a variety of styles such as contemporary, old world, traditional and Asian influence."

With the expanded space comes an expanded workforce. Wilkof said the store employs five people.

"God has blessed me with my employees. They are all talented and dedicated and God knew when I needed each one of them. I went to school with Joni and she just walked into the store one day and I hired her," Wilkof said.

The store has also expanded its hours to Wednesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..
