Giant Eagle has grand re-opening after completing a remodeling of its Strip Avenue NW. Changes include a adding a Starkbucks and offering products
JACKSON TWP. Giant Eagle has completed a multi-million dollar remodeling of its store in The Strip and included several Market District concepts.
Shoppers are greeted by a Starbucks when they enter the store. The expanded bakery includes an Epic Brownie Bar, while the meat department features a dry aged beef case.
While changes make the store look larger, it's the same size. More space has been created for the store's cafe and several departments.
The remodel was done to update the store, which opened at The Strip in the late 1990s. The goal was to bring a new bright feel to the store, said Jannah Jablonowski, a public relations specialist for Giant Eagle.
The Starkbucks offers a convenience to customers, who can grab a drink and have it as they shop. "It's a customer favorite," Jablonowski said.
Both the Epic Brownie Bar and dry aged beef product lines have been staples at the 13 Market District stores operated by Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle. The closest Market District is in Green.
Jablonowski said the Market District stores sometimes pilot products that are moved into the company's 200-plus Giant Eagle locations.
Epic Brownies are being introduced across the chain. Giant Eagle uses imported Belgium chocolate and butter in the special recipe, Jablonowski said. Brownies can be cut from sheets at $2.99 each, or purchased pre-packaged.
The store's wine and beer departments have been reconfigured and expanded. Shoppers can find more than 1,700 varieties of wine, including a selection of Ohio wines that includes area wineries.
More than 800 beer brands can be found at the store. Many are stored cold in improved dairy-style cases and the store still has a "beer cave" area when cases are chilled. There also is an area when customers can buy single bottles and create their own six pack. The store also stocks a variety of Ohio beers.
Other expanded and improved areas include the produce and floral departments. The health and beauty section near the pharmacy also expanded and has added more trendy items that customers might not find in drug stores, Jablonowski said.
Remodeling started late in 2016 and the store, which is opened 24 hours, remained open throughout the project. Plans are for several activities tied to the grand re-opening.
