A local puppy training to become a therapy dog needs surgery and a friend is urging the community for help.
A GoFundMe account has been set up on the behalf of Ava, a 7-month-old rottweiler puppy, who needs a $3,000 surgery for a condition called fragmented coronioid process, which causes pain and for her to walk with a limp.
The fundraiser was started by Toni Alabakovski on behalf of Lori Morgan, a longtime Green Local Schools special education teacher/counselor who has used threapy dogs for the past 22 years in the schools. The therapy dogs provide support for 950 students in grades fourth through sixth every week.
Morgan also volunteers with Akron Children's Hospital's Doggie Brigade, the National Crisis Response Team, Ohio Crisis Response team and the Ohio Education Association Crisis Response Team.
The account, which was created on Dec. 18, has reached $1,045 of its $3,000 goal.
