WOOSTER — The Rev. Art and Lyn (Schmidt) Arvay, 4784 Deer Creek Dive, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary June 15. They were married in 1958 at Friedens United Church of Christ in Cleveland with both fathers officiating, the Rev. Paul William Schmidt and the Rev. Andrew Arvay.

They are the parents of Janette and Jon Lindsay and have three grandchildren. Sons Alan and David are deceased.

The Rev. Arvay served churches in Ohio and Florida with his longest pastorate being senior pastor of the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge from 1963-1982. He is now pastor emeritus of that church. In his free time he enjoys fitness walking, pickleball and bridge. Mrs. Arvay was a math teacher and school counselor in Princeton, N.J., Tallmadge and Boca Raton and Orlando, Florida. She enjoys fitness walking, sewing and bridge.

Both are members of Trinity United Church of Christ where they sing in the choir and previously volunteered in the breakfast program. They serve as ushers for Ohio Light Opera. Also, they have both served as tour leaders for foreign and domestic trips.

The family plans to celebrate by taking a river cruise on the Danube from Nuremberg to Budapest. Also, an open house will be held in the couple’s honor in the Fellowship Hall of Trinity United Church of Christ on Saturday, July 21, from 2-4 p.m. with a renewal of vows at 2:30 p.m. The couple requests that no gifts be given. They would like to share this momentous occasion with church members, relatives and friends.
