The Rev. Tom Douce of North Canton recently was honored with the 2017 Bishop James S. Thomas Leadership Award by the East Ohio Chapter of the United Methodist Federation for Social Action.

An elder with the United Methodist Church, Douce served the Interfaith Campus Ministry, which serves Kent State University's Stark campus, and Stark State College until his retirement. He also is retired from private practice as a counselor with Human Development & Counseling Associates. 

Douce, a native of West Salem, Ohio, is a graduate of Union College in Barbourville, Ky., and earned his master of divinity from the Methodist Theological Seminary in Delaware, Ohio.

He serves as a board member of the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Stark County; chairman of the Board of Higher Education & Campus Ministry for the United Methodist Church; and is a vocalist with A Chorus for a Cause.

Douce and his wife, Betsy, are members of Faith United Methodist Church.
