The third and final contest of 2018 to determine the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion cheesemakers in the Swiss category, as well as the 2018 Grand Champion cheesemaker for the open category, was held Sept. 26 during the Ohio Swiss Festival.

Winners of the final contest were:

Swiss Category — 1. Guggisberg Cheese, Millersburg; 2. Pearl Valley Cheese, Fresno; 3. Bunker Hill Cheese, Millersburg. Other Swiss cheese was entered by Broad Run Cheese, Dover.

Open Category — 1. Guggisberg Cheese (aged baby Swiss); 2. Guggisberg Cheese (baby Swiss); 3. Bunker Hill Cheese (Jersey). Additional varieties of cheese included: gouda, colby, marble, mild cheddar and sharp cheddar.

The 2018 Grand Champion cheesemaker, having the highest overall score, is Guggisberg Cheese Company. Reserve Champion goes to Pearl Valley Cheese Company .

In the open classification, Grand Champion cheesemaker was presented to Middlefield Original Cheese Co-op for its mild cheddar.

Judges for the contest were Tom Mueller and John Jorg, former cheesemakers; Mark Coblentz, Paul Chervenak and Dave Yaggi, cheese buyers.
